When Claude Camp is the wrong thing to buy
If you have never opened Claude Code, start with Anthropic Academy. It is free, it is official, and two days of live instruction is an expensive way to learn what a free course teaches in an afternoon. Come to a cohort once you have hit the ceiling of what you can work out alone.
If you need a certificate for an employer or a tuition program, a university-affiliated course on Coursera issues one and we do not.
If you are buying for a whole team on one codebase, a private session is the better shape, whether that is ours or someone else's. A public cohort puts your engineers in a room with eleven strangers and their unrelated problems.
And if you cannot clear two consecutive days, do not buy a seat. The value is in building your own thing live, with someone watching. A recording of a workshop you missed is worth a fraction of that, and you can get recordings for free elsewhere.

Best when you need a specific answer, not a path
Anthropic's official docs and YouTube talks are genuinely good, free, and the right tool when you already know what you are looking for. The problem is they are a snapshot of a fast-moving target, they teach features in isolation, and the gaps are invisible to you. You cannot look up the workflow you do not know exists yet. If you are brand-new to Claude and just need the basics, this plus a few weeks of daily use gets you most of the way for $0.
Best for going deep on the one surface you already touch
Use Claude every day across the surface for 30-plus days and you will get genuinely good at the part you use most, usually Claude Code. Self-paced video courses help here too. But you predictably plateau on everything else: Cowork, Claude Design, the Messages API, the Agent SDK, mobile and remote-control workflows, running an always-on setup. Those are the pieces that do not compound from solo use, because you never have a reason to reach for them on your own.
Best for the breadth and the operator patterns
A live cohort is the fastest path for a specific reason: you watch a daily operator solve real problems across the whole stack in real time, and you can ask questions the moment you get stuck.
